My name is Izzy. From a very young age, walks around the beautiful rolling downs of East Sussex just didn’t feel right without a dog by my side. The marvellous countryside of the South Downs, positioned so conveniently right outside my door, helped grow my love and interest, for dogs in my life.
As this passion for dogs grew, friends and neighbours asked me to care for their dogs, from walking them to dog sitting. Finally, my family got a dog; Mac, a Whippet Cross Bedlington Terrier (Lurcher). Mac showed me how the dog world worked, and we soon got into Agility classes, starting when I was 11 years old. Since then, I have run Mac, my second dog Duke (Lurcher), as well as other dogs in classes and competitions, which helped me educate myself about canine behaviour. This exposure to many breeds gave me valuable experience and understanding in how to train dogs, from basic commands to running circuits, and ultimately led to my Agility Club asking me to teach classes.
I have had the opportunity to work within a variety of environments with a range of animals. Attending Plumpton College provided the first steps towards a life career with animals. Their Agriculture Course covered farming management, allowing me to care for farm animals, and led on to their Animal Management course, where I learned about a range of smaller animals such as lizards, mice and chinchillas. After completing these courses, I worked at a Doggy Day Care (First for Dogs) in Crawley Down, while also keeping up with teaching agility classes at Lewes and District Dog Training Society. I loved fulfilling my passions by working with dogs. Since then, I have worked at an alpaca farm (Spring Barn Farm), a dog shelter in Hanoi Vietnam, and volunteered at the RSPCA (Nantwich), all of which have added to my experience in new environments of animal handling.
Over the years I have studied Agriculture and Animal Management at Plumpton Agriculture College. I am currently studying at University Centre Reaseheath, where I have completed a Canine Behaviour and Training Foundation Degree, and I am now undertaking a Clinical Canine Behaviour Bachelor of Science for my final year.
I will always seek to continue developing my knowledge and skills within canine behaviour and training, using trusted scientific resources to keep on top of new methods and theories as they come out.
